Ann Orr Carlson Student Teaching Scholarship
In memory of Ann Orr Carlson, who taught in Springfield public schools for 27 years as a 2nd and 3rd-grade teacher. A dedicated and caring teacher, Ann served as a supportive mentor to many student teachers over her long and distinguished career.
Eligibility: Be in your student teaching semester, have elementary education as a primary major, secondary major, or pursuing elementary education certification, have academic merit, and plan to pursue an elementary education teaching career. Preference will be given to students student teaching in Springfield School District #186.
Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship
The Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to accomplished students in the Music program. The $1,000 scholarship is possible through the generous efforts of Larry and Catherine Shiner in loving memory of their daughter.
The scholarship is open to students of academic merit in any major who are enrolled for credit in one or more voice or instrumental music ensembles each semester they hold the scholarship.

Requirements and Eligibility
- Must have a qualifying cumulative grade point average
- Must have 30 transfer hours by entry to UIS
- Must be fully admitted and enrolled in a degree-seeking program
- Must be enrolled in an on-campus program
- Students already holding a Bachelors Degree are not eligible
- Must have valid FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Assistance by the first day of classes
- Must have official final transcripts received by the Office of Admission by the start of classes
- Your admission application will serve as the scholarship application
- Renewable for up to two years with an institutional GPA of 3.0 or better
- 3.00 3.24 GPA will receive $1,500
- 3.25 3.49 GPA will receive $2,000
- 3.50 3.74 GPA will receive $2,500
- 3.75 4.00 GPA will receive $3,000
Amounts are based on full-time enrollment at UIS and are annual, to be split between the fall and spring semesters.

Federal Student Loan Repayment Pause
On November 22, 2022, the White House announced another extensionto federal student loan repayments. Payments for borrowers that are not in a qualified deferment or forbearance status will now resume 60 days after the Department of Education is permitted to implement the debt relief program or litigation regarding the court cases is resolved by the Supreme Court. If there has been no resolution to the litigation of court cases or the debt relief program has not been implemented by June 30, 2023, payments will resume 60 days after that. Please visit StudentAid.gov to continue to get further updates regarding announcements for repayments and the debt relief program, and keep an eye out for future updates from the Office of Financial Aid here at UIS.
Students enrolled in college coursework at least half-time status are considered to be in-school status, and will not enter repayment status. Typically, when students graduate, withdraw from college, or drop below half-time enrollment, they will enter the 6-month grace period leading up to beginning repayment.

Daniel A And Carolyn Schnirring Dungan Scholarship
This scholarship for $1000 is for undergraduate students who are majoring in Visual Arts or involved in the Music program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. If at such time as students are able to minor or major in music, then the income from the fund will be used to support these students. Scholarships shall be based on financial need with merit consideration.

Minority Teachers Of Illinois Scholarship Program
If you plan to become a preschool, elementary or secondary school teacher and are of African American/Black, Hispanic American, Asian American or Native American origin, you may qualify for up to $5,000 per year as part of the Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship Program to pay for tuition, fees and room and board, or commuter allowances, if applicable.
Regina Midden Farley Scholarship
This $350 scholarship is awarded to a management student who has attended UIS for more than two semesters totaling at least 16 hours and whose superior work performance is demonstrated by a recommendation from a person who has worked with the student. The recipient must maintain a GPA of 3.75. A recommendation from a Management program faculty is required. An essay illustrating work performance is also required.

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Luther W Skelton Endowment For Energy Policy And Energy Research
The $200 awards, one per semester, are open to application by any ENS graduate student who has defended his/her thesis or graduate project proposal in the area of energy policy or research. If no one meets that criteria, graduate students whose research focus most closely relates to the spirit of this intent may be considered. To apply, students should email to the department chair a brief discussion of the research and its significance, and why receipt of the award is necessary for the success of the research. Applications are due on February 15 for awards made in the spring and September 15 for fall awards.

Thomas A Shearer Scholarship
This $2500 scholarship fund was established in 2009 by Thomas A. Shearer who graduated from UIS with a BA in Environments and People. Because Mr. Shearer has a great concern for students working toward their bachelors degree, this scholarship is for a full or part time student with an Environmental Studies major, demonstrated financial need, and at least a 3.0 GPA. If no such student is eligible, the next priority will be an Environmental Studies minor with a major in the College of Public Affairs and Administration.

Rotary District 6460 Scholarship Opportunities For College Students
Applications for the $18,000 William J. Menghini International Ambassadorial Scholarship are due on May 28. Eligible students must live in, go to school in, or have graduated from a school in District 6460 , and have completed a minimum of 48 university credit hours. The scholarship supports undergraduate or graduate full academic-year residential study in the applicants chosen field at a university or college in a country of the applicant’s choice.
West-central Illinois undergraduate college students may apply for $3000 Rotary District scholarships to cover tuition, books, or other university fees to a college, university or an approved vocational school. Students must reside in, go to college in, or have graduated from a school in District 6460 have completed at least 24 university credit hours and be pursuing a degree in a Rotary International Focus Area. The application deadline is midnight, May 28.
Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association
Student scholarship is offered to an Illinois student attending an Illinois school who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in land surveying or a baccalaureate degree in a related science including at least 24 semester hours of land surveying courses from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation Land Surveyors Licensing Board approved curriculum of an accredited institution. Chapin Award For Student Research
The Department of History is pleased to offer Chapin Scholarships to assist qualified students conducting archival and other primary source research. The scholarships are designed to help meritorious graduate and undergraduate students in the History honors program with expenses such as travel, lodging, copying, archive and library fees, purchasing research materials, and other costs directly related to significant research based on primary source materials.
The Chapin Award committee invites applications and nominations for this years Chapin History Award. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.
Recipients will be notified soon after review of all application materials. As a condition of acceptance, recipients of the award will present findings from their research at a departmental awards reception the following spring. The awards are made possible by a generous growing endowment from Nancy Lanphier and Charles Armstrong Chapin.
John E Erickson Memorial Scholarship
Dr. John E. Erickson was a passionate educator, having taught all levels of the field from elementary grades to university graduates. A firm believer that education was the key to democracy and freedom, Mr. Erickson influenced countless students in the education field. Along with his wife, Delinda A. Chapman, Ed.D., he was very active in the Springfield branch of the American Association of University Women. The John E. Erickson Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Chapman in memory of her husband. Applicants must be in good academic standing with demonstrated involvement in service to others. - Melinda and Alfred LaBarre Scholarship– As a former teacher, principal and Ball Foundation Consultant to the Springfield Ball Charter School, as well as member of Springfields Dist. 186 School Board, Melinda LaBarre has invested many years in the educational integrity of Springfields students. Melinda and her husband, attorney Alfred Pete LaBarre, have established the Melinda A. and Alfred B. LaBarre Scholarship which will honor a qualified high school graduate of Springfields public school district with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 upon graduation.
- Peggy and Micah Bartlett Scholarship– Micah Bartlett was in the first generation of his family to graduate from college, earning an accounting degree from UIS and then going on to earn an MBA and his CPA license. Today Micah is president and CEO of Town and Country Financial Corporation. His wife, Peggy Bartlett, has also worked in banking. She now owns Colour Line Hair Studio in Geneva, Illinois. In 2008, Peggy and Micah visited a class with students in PATI, which helps to prepare students to become teachers. Many of the students are first-generation college students like Micah. The Bartletts were impressed with the students commitment and drive, and because they believe so strongly in education, they created a scholarship for students in the program.
