Con #: College Life Is More Demanding For An Rotc Student
If you choose to participate in an ROTC program during college, theres no question that your life might be a bit more demanding on a daily basis.
For one thing, ROTC is an extracurricular commitment. It means that, in addition to going to class and studying, youll also have training sessions and other events to attend outside of class. There are other demands on your time that you might not have thought of either, like keeping your uniform in pristine condition so you can pass inspection or attending regular physical training sessions.
The standards for participation in ROTC activities are high as well. For example, you should plan to be early to ROTC events. Furthermore, while community outreach like volunteering isnt required, its definitely expected. Put another way, there are official and unofficial requirements for ROTC, so you should weigh them all before deciding to participate.

- Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50

How Hard Is It To Get An Rotc Scholarship
College scholarships are relatively competitive, and ROTC scholarships are no exception.
About 2,500 out of 9,300 high school applicants are awarded an Army ROTC scholarship. About 25% of those ROTC scholarship winners received the Army’s four-year ROTC National Scholarship, and the other 75% were awarded three-year scholarships.
Scholarships with the AFROTC can be expected to be more competitive beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year due to some major changes. The Air Force ROTC High School Scholarship Program has significantly decreased the number of scholarships given out every year. In 2021-22, more than 5,000 high school senior applications were reviewed, but only 1,000 were awarded. In 2023, there will likely be even fewer recipients, with less than 500 scholarships awarded.
The same amount of applicants will be competing with even fewer slots to fill.
ROTC programs rank applicants according to a point scale: the army ranks on a 1400-point scale and AFROTC ranks on a 1000-point scale. Your best chance at winning an ROTC scholarship is to score higher than other applicants. The interview with the selection board is the most important area since it allots the most points in comparison to the other areas of consideration. Prepare ahead of time so you can do well in the interview and perform well for the scholarship review boards.

How Do Scholarships For Rotc Students Work
There are ROTC scholarships for college students and high school students. Some pay full tuition, fees and textbooks plus a monthly sum for personal expenses. Others pay less and you may still have unmet financial need. If so, you may seek extra aid from the federal government and other sources.
When you accept an ROTC award, it legally binds you to serve in the military for a specific number of years. Failing to do so, the ROTC may unenroll you and there may be extra active duty. Your scholarship also turns into a loan which you have to repay.
While you are earning your degree, your curriculum expands beyond your major and electives. It includes mandatory ROTC courses, branch specific topics and ROTC military training in summers.
