The Military Family Scholarship Program Act creates a scholarship program to provide all children of veterans and active military personnel the option to attend the public or private elementary or secondary school of their parents choice.
How can you get a military scholarship?
To be eligible, students must be U.S. Citizens with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and must qualify as a commissioned officer in the Army Reserves. Recipients must agree to one year of active-duty service for every year of scholarship funding received.

Military Family Scholarship Program
Participate in Military Family Scholarship Program whose target is to honor the men and women of armed forces and to raise awareness of their service and sacrifice. Kaplan University and the AFF have teamed up to offer scholarship that is designed to support military and veteran families.
The program will award up to 900 scholarships, each covering more than half the costs of an undergraduate degree at Kaplan University. Applications will be accepted from the spouses or dependent children of service members, including National Guard and Reserve, and spouses or dependent children of United States veterans.

Veteran Dependent Scholarships For Military Spouses
#1: The Folds of Honor Higher Education Scholarship
According to its website, Folds of Honor was founded in 2007 to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of fallen and disabled servicemembers. Though the 2020 application window is now closed, you can learn more about the Folds of Honor Higher Education Scholarship here.
#2: Hope For The Warriors Scholarships
Hope For The Warriors is an organization whose unique scholarship program celebrates and rewards the spouses and caregivers of post-9/11 veterans. Since its inception in 2006, the program has awarded over 140 scholarships totaling more than $412,000 an average of more than $2,900 per scholarship.
Currently, there are five scholarships available through the Hope For The Warriors foundation:
- The Honorary Scholarship for post-grad and graduate students
- The New Beginnings scholarship for students pursuing an associates degree
- The Restoring Family Scholarship, which is only available for Gold Star Spouses
- The Restoring Hope Scholarship for students pursuing a masters degree in social work
- The Restoring Self Scholarship for students pursuing a bachelors degree in any field
#3: NMFA Military Spouse Scholarships
Please note that these scholarships are intended for military spouses and are not open to dependent children. However, additional scholarships for kids of veterans are available through Fisher House, which operates the Scholarships for Military Children Program.

The Coast Guard Foundation
The Coast Guard Foundation offers grants for active duty enlisted members and their spouses, it also offers scholarships to children of active duty, retired or deceased enlisted members.
- Grants for spouses of active-duty enlisted members – These grants are open to spouses of active-duty enlisted personnel, and spouses of some reservists. Grants are for $500.
- Scholarships for Coast Guard children – These scholarships are open to unmarried dependent children of enlisted active duty members, reservists on extended active duty for 180 days or more, retirees, or deceased members. Applicants must be college-bound high school seniors entering a college or technical school for the fall semester or a full-time undergraduate student already enrolled in an accredited four-year undergraduate program or technical school.
Imagine Americas Military Award Program
The Imagine Americas Military Award program was established to assist higher learning funds for military veterans. Also known as the MAP program, it can provide $1,000 for educational funds.
The scholarship is open to active duty military personnel, reservists, honorably discharged military vets, as well as retired veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces that seek to pursue career college training.

Education Savings Accounts for Military Families Act of 2021
This bill directs the Department of Education to establish a program to provide children with parents on active duty in the uniformed services with funds to pay educational expenses.
Specifically, ED must establish a tax-exempt Military Education Savings Account for dependent children of parents in the uniformed services for the payment of the children’s educational expenses. Funds in the savings account may be used for specified purposes, including the cost of attendance at a private elementary or secondary school or institution of higher education, private tutoring, or costs associated with an apprenticeship or other vocational training program.

Veteran or Service Member:CSDDV provides scholarships for Florida resident dependent children and un-remarried spouses of Florida Veterans and Service Members whose official military and residency status have been certified by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs.
Scholarship Funding for Children and Spouses:CSDDV provides funding for tuition and registration fees at an eligible Florida public postsecondary institution or an equivalent amount at an eligible Florida private postsecondary institution.

Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program gibill.va.gov This program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.
Post 9/11 Gi Bill Transferability
There is a special provision of the program that allows military members to share their remaining GI Bill benefits with immediate family members. The key factor is whether or not the member has used any of their GI Bill in the past only unused benefits can be transferred. This means that if they used 12 months of their GI Bill, then they can only transfer the remaining 24 months of benefits.
Service members must meet specific criteria to be eligible to transfer their GI Bill benefits. This includes having at least six years of service and an obligation to serve at least four more.

The Fredrick C. Branch scholarship is named after the first black officer to serve in the United States Marine Corps. The NROTC scholarship is awarded to military children that plan to attend one of the 17 historical black colleges in the United States.
Each year the Fredrick C. Branch scholarship awards nearly 70 Branch scholarships to recipients. Each awardee receives two, four year installments, or one, three year installment.

Army Womens Foundation Legacy Scholarship
The Army Womens Foundation Legacy scholarship was established to honor the many women serving in the U.S. Army. The grant provides up to $2,500 in tuition assistance for undergraduate and graduate military vets.
There are multiple different scholarships listed under the Army Womens Foundation depending on personal goals. It includes scholarships for community college, certificate program, university, or graduate program.
How to apply: In order to apply you must be a woman that has honorably served in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard.

#2: The Children of Warriors National Presidents Scholarship
The Children of Warriors National Presidents Scholarship, which is awarded annually by the American Legion Auxiliary , is available to the daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during or after World War II . The scholarship amount is $5,000, which may be used for tuition, books, fees, room, and board. If you think you might be eligible, you can apply for the scholarship online.
#3: NLF Scholarships
The Navy League Foundation awards assorted scholarships to the children and grandchildren of U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps personnel, including veterans and active-duty servicemembers.
