Relying Too Heavily On Someone Else
You may have friends or family members who are skilled writers or detail-oriented people. They can be great resources during the application process, but you shouldnt let them do all the work for you.
Scholarship committees want to know details about you, and youre the best one to provide that information. No one else can talk about your goals, your experiences and your opinions quite as you can.

General Considerations When Applying For Scholarships
There are many more general university scholarships offered to students interested in becoming an accountant. High school students should talk to their guidance counselors about scholarship opportunities. The best time to begin this process is during the junior year. Waiting until senior year is not a good idea, as many application deadlines come surprisingly early.
Most universities have entire offices dedicated to providing students with scholarship information and to assisting students with the application process.
Various scholarship sponsors may ask applicants to meet different requirements, may have different deadlines, and may ask for different extra materials to be submitted along with the application. However, in most cases, the application processes have more in common than differences. The best rule to keep in mind when applying is to be prepared early.
For the most part, applying for a scholarship is a lengthy process, requiring paperwork, personal essays, and letters of recommendation from previous teachers, peers, or employers. Waiting until only a few days or weeks until the application deadline is never a good idea, as it takes a lot of time to secure all of these required documents or to write a good essay.
These steps will help ensure there is no delay in the scholarship application process.

Where To Find Scholarships
You may be able to find scholarship opportunities though the following resources:
- Community Clubs. Looking around your town is a great way to begin your scholarship search. There is often lower demand for local scholarships than national ones, and several small scholarships can really add up. Check with service clubs, religious groups and local businesses.
- School Resources. Universities often have multiple scholarships that they hand out to incoming or current students. The financial aid office may be able to provide information about school-wide or department-specific scholarship opportunities. In addition, if youre going straight from high school to college, you may be able to get scholarships from groups within your high school.
- Womens Groups. Pro-female groups love to see women succeed in college, so they distribute money to encourage their educational pursuits. In particular, you may have good luck finding scholarships from female groups that are specific to your industry or field of study.
- Your Employer. If youre going back to school as an adult, you may be able to receive a scholarship from your company. Those still in high school may be able to get a scholarship from a parents employer.
- Local or National Foundations. Some organizations are dedicated primarily to giving away money. Their gifts may be in honor of a memorable person, or they might be focused on helping people who are facing hardships get ahead.
Private And Professional Sources
In the Accounting and finance sectors, private and professional organizations play a key role in providing scholarships for students at all levels of the education ladder. Undergraduate and graduate students will find scholarship programs designed to help defray the costs of their education, while post-doctoral students will find fellowships and research grants to help them complete their studies.
