The Chief Petty Office Scholarship Fund grants various funds to numerous recipients every year. All children of active duty, retired, or reserve Chief Petty Officers are eligible for the award, including adopted and step-children.

The non-profit organization established the scholarship to generate and distribute funds specifically for educational opportunities. Candidates eligible for scholarship awards are non-uniformed spouses or dependent children of all Chief Petty Officers in the U.S. Navy.

How to apply: The guidelines for applying include:

  • Be about to graduate or have graduated from high school or earned a General Equivalency Diploma .
  • Must intend to enter or currently be enrolled in a community college, vocational college, or university.

The United States Navy And Marine Corps

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society provides financial support to Naval personnel, Marines, and their families. In addition to a number of interest free loans for service-members and their families, the Relief Society offers the following programs for the college-bound dependents of Navy and Marine personnel.

  • The NMCRS Gold Star Scholarship Program is available to the children and spouses of Navy and Marine personnel who were killed in the line of duty. Applicants must demonstrate the requisite level of financial need, and once in school must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Awards range from $500 to $2500 per academic year.
  • The Joseph A. McAlinden Divers Scholarship is available to the children or spouses of active-duty Navy or Marine divers. Students must be studying oceanography, ocean agriculture or aquaculture in an approved college program. Awards range from $500 to $3000, and are determined by financial need.

In addition to these scholarship programs, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society also administers the Vice Admiral E. P. Travers Loan Program and the Spouse Tuition Aid Loan Program which provide low cost education loans to the dependents of active-duty Navy or Marine Corps personnel.

Army Womens Foundation Legacy Scholarship

Amount: $2,500

The Army Womens Foundation Legacy scholarship was established to honor the many women serving in the U.S. Army. The grant provides up to $2,500 in tuition assistance for undergraduate and graduate military vets.

There are multiple different scholarships listed under the Army Womens Foundation depending on personal goals. It includes scholarships for community college, certificate program, university, or graduate program.

How to apply: In order to apply you must be a woman that has honorably served in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard.

Government sponsors the scholarships for military dependents for higher education. Post 9/11 GI is a famous program and family members of the veterans also get benefits from this program.

Tips For Getting A Scholarship

1. Have Proof of Military Affiliation
Scholarships for veterans may require applicants to submit the DD Form 214. This form certifies a person’s retirement or discharge from the armed forces. It also details a veteran’s military service record, awards, and other essential information. Veterans can use the form for scholarships and other services, such as obtaining medical care and planning a military funeral.
2. Engage in Community Service
Scholarship applicants who complete community service demonstrate that they possess a passion for improving other people’s lives. Options available in most communities include volunteering at a food bank, building homes for people with low incomes, and working at a soup kitchen. Organizations can help prospective volunteers research and sign up for opportunities in their area.
3. Follow Directions
Scholarship committees appreciate applicants who follow all instructions. Some scholarship committees disqualify applicants for even simple mistakes, such as leaving part of the application blank. If a scholarship committee requests missing materials, students should reply to them as soon as possible.

The Survivors And Dependents Educational Assistance Program

This VA program provides up to 45 months of education and on-the-job training. Additional time may be offered up to 81 months if the DEA program is used in conjunction with other VA programs.

Qualifying dependents of veterans with VA-rated medical issues deemed permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition may be eligible for DEA, which is also open to eligible dependents of veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a VA-rated condition caused by or associated with military service.

DEA benefits may be available to the dependent children or spouses who meet VA guidelines for the program. These are the dependents of:

  • A Veteran who died or is permanently/totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability.
  • A Veteran who died from any cause while such permanent and total service-connected disability existed.
  • A service member missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.
  • A service member forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government or power.
  • A service member hospitalized for a service connected permanent and total disability and is likely to be discharged for that disability.

What Documentation Do I Need To Gather For This Scholarship

Typically, we need a birth certificate proving your relationship to your parent , high school diploma or transcript proving you graduated or will graduate from an Idaho high school, proof of the total and permanent disability from the Social Security Administration or PERSI, and documentation of service with either a letter from the employer or a DD-214. This last document should show the injury occurred in the line of duty and in the case of a member of the armed forces, showing the injury happened while deployed to an area of armed conflict.

The War Veterans Scholarship is awarded by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association . It provides financial relief to active duty uniformed military service members as well as honorably discharged veterans that served in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

The scholarship is open twice a year, and provides merit-based scholarships of $2,500.

How to apply: The primary stipulation is the veteran must be enrolled in an accredited STEM-related degree program at an accredited 4 year college or university.

Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a sophomore or junior at the time of application, have either part time or full time status at a four-year university, have served in Afghanistan and/or Iraq War, and have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Additionally, you must provide proof that you served in the form of a DD214 or Certificate of Service.

Lastly, you must be majoring in any one of the following related degree programs:

Navy League Of The United States Foundation

The Navy League of the United States Foundation offers more than 25 scholarships to dependents and direct descendants of Sea Service personnel. The sea services are the U.S Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and U.S.-Flag Merchant Marines. The Navy League has 25 endowed scholarships, and the local councils may have additional ones. The application form is available on their website in the fall of each year. Winners are notified in May.

This nationally famous program was made by Act 633 and endorsed in October 1947 by the Alabama Legislature. It is regulated by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs and is represented by the Code of Alabama 1975, Section 31-6-1. Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program gibill.va.gov This program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.

Awardees are selected based on scholastic merit, financial need, and community service involvement. The mission of the scholarship fund is to help spouses and children of military personnel to pursue educational dreams and ambitions.

How to apply: Scholarships are awarded to 50 individuals each year. It is funded solely through generous contributions. The money is applicable to use at community colleges, trade and technical schools, as well as traditional college scholarships.
