Scholarships For Psychology Students To Apply For In 2022

According to the American Psychology Association , in 2013, almost 90% of PsyD graduate students were in debt upon graduating from school, and over 60% of Ph.D. were graduate students.

The median average for PsyD graduate students debt was $120,000, which was over twice as significant as the median average for Ph.D. graduate students. This places psychology graduate students at the top of most graduate student debt jobs.

Its only gotten more expensive in recent years, even though the income for those in private practices such as mental health professionals, counseling, or clinical psychology has stagnated. This is regardless of whether or not they have a psychology degree.

Because of this continuous rise in graduate students debt, its essential to recognize what psychology scholarships are available for psychology students. These psychology scholarships can relieve the financial stress being placed upon psychology students in the future.

What Should I Know About The Application Process

Scholarships and grants are competitive, and the application process is time-consuming. The research process alone takes time. Thats why its important to start your search AND the application process sooner rather than later to avoid missing out on funding opportunities. By starting the process early, youll also avoid the stress. Paying for college is already expensive and costs continue to climb each year.

Before you start your search , its important to address scholarship and financial aid scams. Unfortunately, scams are common, and target college students looking for aid. But you can protect your wallet by knowing what to look for and staying informed.

Keep these red flags in mind when searching for scholarships:

  • If you are required to pay an application fee, move on. Legitimate scholarships do NOT cost money
  • Scholarships are awarded AFTER an application process. This is a very important part of the application process, and should not be overlooked. Without an application, how would the selection committee judge the applications?
  • If you cant reach the scholarship provider either by phone or email, theres a good chance the scholarship is a scam.
  • A legitimate scholarship should provide names of prior winners. If this information is unavailable, you might want to pass on the offer.
  • The steps outlined below will help you streamline your search, and make the application process both easier and faster.
