You can meet and relate to a group of veterans who have the common bond of being wounded in combat and recognized for that sacrifice.
Pride of Membership
Your membership keeps alive the history and ideals for which you were awarded the Purple Heart from its original inception by General George Washington to Americas citizen soldiers of today.
Regular meetings are held throughout the country and a MOPH Chapter is usually within a convenient distance from your home. Chapters engage in numerous social and helping activities centered on veterans and their families, particularly those being treated at VA facilities.
Military Order Of The Purple Heart Scholarship Program
To be eligible to apply for a MOPH Scholarship, each applicant needs to be a member of one of the following categories:
a Purple Heart recipient who is also a member of MOPH,or
The spouce of a Purple Heart recipient who is a Member of MOPH, or
The direct lineal descendent of a Purple Heart recipient whi is a Menver of MOPH, or
the spouse, widow/widower, or direct lineal descendent as defined above of a service member killed-in-action or who died of wounds. If the Purple Heart recipient is listed as killed-in-action or died of wounds, supporting documentation must accompany the application.
The National Service Officers Program
MOPH operates a nationwide network of offices and staff that includes trained Service Officers. These personnel are accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs as National Service Officers and are distributed throughout the US. The Department of Connecticut MOPH is fortunate to have Stanley Trela as our State Service Officer. Stan is available to all Veterans, not just Purple Heart Members, who need assistance in traversing the VA process. He can be reached via email at or by telephone at The Newington VA Hospital 594-6648. Stan also has an office at the West Haven VA Hospital. The phone number is 932-5711 X5945. Mr. Trela staffs his Newington Office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the West Haven Office on Tuesday and Thursday. Scholarship Deadline: July 01 2022 At 5pm Est
The Purple Heart Scholarship Committee will evaluate all applications that are timely received and meet the eligibility and application requirements described below. All aspects of the application are considered and evaluated by the Purple Heart Scholarship Committee. The Purple Heart Scholarship Committee shall make all decisions regarding the eligibility for a Scholarship and the award of a Scholarship and, all decisions by the Purple Heart Scholarship Committee are final.
Not every applicant will receive a scholarship. This is not a full tuition scholarship. The amount of the scholarship may vary each year subject to funding levels. Purple Heart Scholarship checks are required to be endorsed by both the student and the school. The college or university, therefore, may exercise some control over how the funds are utilized and this can impact the level of financial benefit realized by the student.
Military Order Of The Purple Heart Annual Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to eligible Military Order of the Purple Heart recipients, and/or their spouse or children. To be eligible for this scholarship, the students must be a Military Order of the Purple Heart recipient military veteran or spouse or child of a military veteran, and be enrolled at The University of Southern Mississippi as an undergraduate or graduate student. Consideration will be given for GPA, campus involvement, community service and USM Student Veterans of America Chapter engagement. Students must provide military discharge papers or proof of eligibility for having been awarded the Purple Heart.

Military Order Of The Purple Heart Auxiliary
The Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary is a sister organization of the MOPH. Its members include parents, spouses, children, widowed stepchildren, grandchildren and legally adopted children, lineal descendants of Purple Heart recipients, who may or may not be MOPH members themselves. It functions as a separate organization from the MOPH, but shares the same goals and mission.
Software Development Training Program
In addition to the software development training program provided by Redding Software Corporation, the organization selects 15 members for training/internship each year. Most employers prefer to hire programmers with at least one year of experience, so most internships last one year.

Three U.S. military veterans attending Seminole State College of Florida have been awarded scholarships. The three were to be recognized at the Colleges annual Veterans Day Celebration, but it was canceled due to Hurricane Nicole.
The Foundation for Seminole State College awarded the endowed scholarship honoring fallen Marine Sgt. Mark Johnson IV to U.S. Army Veteran Jake Fowler.
Johnson, a married father of two, was one of six U.S. Marines killed in a helicopter crash while on a mission to help Nepal earthquake victims in May 2015. He grew up in Altamonte Springs, earned an Associate in Science in Automotive Service Management Technology in 2005 and an Associate in Arts in December 2008. He joined the military in early 2009.
The Paralyzed Veterans of America Central Florida Chapter awarded $1,000 scholarships to U.S. Air Force Veteran Colton Ellis and U.S. Army Veteran Nicholas Whitaker.

Disabled War Veterans Scholarship
Scholarships will be offered to active-duty service personnel, honorably discharged U.S. military veterans, reservists, and National Guard personnel who are disabled because of wounds received during combat service in Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations. Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree.
