NECESSITY, FUNCTION, AND CONFORMITY:KRS314.025 through314.027authorize the Kentucky Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund for Kentuckyresidents.KRS314.026 requires theBoard of Nursing to promulgate administrative regulations to implement andadminister the scholarship fund. This administrative regulation implements theKentucky Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund Program and establishes therequirements relating to the program.

Nursing Scholarship Requirements In Kentucky

Kentuckys loan scholarship program is known as the Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund, or NISF. Pre-licensure nursing students, from LPN to MSN level, are eligible to apply. Your school does not necessarily have to be located within the state accredited online programs are generally acceptable. In order to apply, you must have completed your prerequisites and moved on to the clinical phase of the program. Financial need is not necessarily a requirement, but it will give you some priority in the selection process. You must apply by June 1 if you are demonstrating financial need, you should allow several weeks for your school to process necessary paperwork. Awards are $3,000 a year. Each year of financing requires a year of work in a Kentucky healthcare facility.

Smaller scholarships are available through the Kentucky Nurses Foundation. Students from ADN to DNP level are eligible to apply. Your application packet must include two references letters and a one page statement that describes what receipt of the award could potentially mean to you. Submit all materials by September 15.

Nurse Incentive Scholarship Incentive Fund

This scholarship is much like the one above, but it applies to students majoring in nursing. In order to apply you must reside in Kentucky, be a high school senior, provide proof of financial need, and have a history of academic achievement. Loan forgiveness is available after graduation based on work in a health care setting per semester of training. If post-graduate reciprocal work is not completed, the entire amount will revert to a loan and it, plus interest will have to be paid back. For more information, look for the NISIF on line.

    Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund

    The Nursing Incentive Scholarship Fund was implemented to provide scholarships only to Kentucky residents who will be attending an approved pre-licensure nursing program or graduate nursing program. The student that is proven to be the most qualified for a scholarship through this fund will be selected by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and awarded $3,000 per year of attendance. The funds can be used towards any cost the student incurs during academia, including housing and resources to use during attendance.

    To be chosen for a scholarship, the student must be a Kentucky resident that is currently attending a nursing program either in or out of the state of Kentucky and currently completing the core nursing courses required. Prerequisite students will not be chosen for a scholarship through this fund and are not encouraged to apply.

    Preference for a scholarship will be given to those with a demonstrated financial need, LPNs that are seeking an RN degree, and RNs that are seeking a BSN degree, and is renewable as long as the student maintains the academic requirements and an appropriate GPA.

    The following are requirements for eligibility:

    • Pre-licensure: 15 credit hours of published nursing program requirements per academic year
    • Graduate: 9 credit hours of published nursing program requirements per academic year
