Overcoming Obstacle Essay Influential Person Essay

After I graduated high school, I became certain that if I wanted to pursue a higher education I needed to be persistent and determined to achieve my career aspirations. However, I would not be at this level in my education without my mom’s support. Without having my father’s emotional and economical assistance, she has learned how to provide me with a decent quality of life. She works as a hair stylist in my hometown, but she knows the money she earns is not enough to pay for my medical career. As a result, I search for scholarships and job opportunities that could contribute to the achievement of my college education and help pay for basic needs in our home.

While I am constantly trying to find more work and searching for scholarships that will help me pay for my education, I remain grateful to find opportunities like the one your foundation is providing to students. It makes me feel that I am not alone on the journey of accomplishing my educational goals.

Life Happens Scholarship By Emily Trader

Here is an example of a moving scholarship essay on the topic of family loss by Emily Trader for the Life Happens award.

ESSAY PROMPT: How has the death of a parent or guardian impacted your life financially and emotionally? Be sure to describe how the loss of your parent/guardian impacted your college plans, and explain how the lack of adequate life insurance coverage has impacted your familys financial situation.

When I was seventeen years old, my father lost his battle with kidney failure and cardiovascular disease. As long as I shall live, I do not believe that I will ever forget the first moment I saw my fathers once vibrant face in that cold and unforgiving casket. I wont forget his lifeless and defeated hands, or how his pale lips would never utter another joke or speak to his grandchildren. Even though the day of his funeral was undoubtedly the worst day of my life, I wish I could relive it just to be with him one more time. Since that moment, I have felt as if all of my grief and longing resides underneath my skin with nothing to relieve the pressure. On September 8th, 2016, I lost my voice of reason, my confidant, my cheerleader, and my best friend.

I love and miss you so much, Dad. Thank God I will see you again.

Scholarship Goals Essay Example

It was November, 2016, a few days before Thanksgiving. My class took a field trip to a soup kitchen to serve lunch. I poured piping hot soup into bowls while people started to fill the room. It was a great way to warm up on the frigid November day. Their eyes seemed empty and sad. Happy Thanksgiving we said to one another, as our eyes locked.

A few days later, as I sat surrounded by family, turkey, gravy and pumpkin pie, I couldnt help but feel like something wasnt right. Why was I so fortunate to have access to all this food? I thought of the people from the soup kitchen and wondered where they were. I knew right then and there that my purpose in life was to help people.

I returned to the soup kitchen as a volunteer a week later, and a week after that.

I envisioned the realm of possibilities for these people. I would connect him with a rehab program, her with daycare for her baby so she could find work, I thought to myself while volunteering. I have dreams of one day being able to help people make changes in their lives.

For this reason, I will be starting my undergraduate degree in social work at Boston University in the fall. I am certain that my studies will instill within me the skills and knowledge I need to pursue a career as a social worker. I hope to be able to help those who are less privileged find hope in their lives.

How to Reuse Scholarship Essays & Win Over and Over

Now that you have a thesis statement, an outline, and a list of important points to include, you can begin to fillin the missing parts of your story. The first sentence is particularly important: it should capture the attention ofthe reader, and motivate him or her to continue reading. We recommend starting your story by painting a vividpicture of an experience about which you will be talking in the essay.

For example: “It is 6 am on a hot day in July, I’ve already showered and I’m eating breakfast. My classmates are allsleeping in and the sun has yet to awaken, but I’m ready to seize the day, as I couldn’t imagine spending my summerany other way but interning at a local law firm that specializes in representing the poor. I work a typical 8-5 dayduring my summer vacation and nothing has made me happier. But I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for one particularlysavvy teacher and a little book she gave me to read outside of class.”

What To Write In A Career Goals Essay If Your Goals Have Changed

Many times career goals essays are written by students who have already completed at least some college or are applying to a post-graduate program and need more money to continue.

Theres a good chance that your career goals have changed since you started or graduated college. For example, say you wanted to be an engineer, so you got your undergraduate degree in engineering but realized you didnt like it after working in the industry for a few years.

You decided that nursing would be more up your alley, and now youre applying for a scholarship for a nursing program. While this isnt unusual, it can make it more difficult to write a career goals essay since your past work doesnt necessarily match your future goals.

In this case, youll simply need to explain why you changed your career path and why this next one is the best choice for you. Share your decision-making process to show that you havent taken the switch lightly, and talk about what youve already done to try to pursue this path.
