Give Yourself Enough Time
Applying for scholarships is time-consuming. Since each award has its own angle and requirements, you will need to devote time to completing each application and gathering the requested materials.
The good news is that some scholarships ask for the same documents, which can reduce the work needed for each application. However, you will generally need to respond to prompts or write an essay that is unique to the individual scholarship application.
Give yourself enough time to apply for the scholarships youve chosen. A rushed application is unlikely to be selected, so schedule in time to work on each individual application.

About Scholarships For Moms
For parents, college can be a daunting task. At least one in five college students are parents. Of these student parents, more than 70 percent are women. Although there are many parents on college campuses, they still struggle to complete their degrees.
For single mothers in financial need especially, it can be extremely difficult to get an education. Just 28 percent of single moms graduate from college within 6 years of enrolling. Many women return to school later in life, which can also make it extremely difficult to finish their degree.
Because of the time and money that a college education requires, many single mothers choose to attend two-year institutions. 44 percent of all single mothers in college attend two-year institutions. Alternatively, only 19 percent attend public or private four-year colleges. For those who want to get an undergraduate degree, their child should not prevent the educational institutions that they choose to attend.
Some demographics of student mothers are more likely to raise a child without another person’s support.37 percent Black women and 27 percent of American Indian/Alaska Native women are raising a child without support from a spouse or partner while in college. When compared with other racial demographics, like Hispanic women and white women who raised their children without support only 19 and 17 percent of the time respectively, it becomes clear how motherhood affects some student groups more than others as they get an education.

Scholarships for mothers offer the encouragement and financial support women need to succeed. Returning to college can mean a significant increase in job opportunities and income. Families struggle to make ends meet when mothers are unable to get a job or work long hours for little pay. The opportunity to go to college or a vocational school can make a major difference in the quality of a familys life. It also sets a precedent for future generations to do everything possible to reach their goals of higher education. High school graduates earn less than people with an associates or bachelors degree.

Government Grants For Moms And Single Mothers
Of course, the first place single mothers and moms interested in applying for grants should start is by investigating the government grants that are available. The Pell Grant is the most widely known government grant. It is also a wonderful option as the Pell Grant can give low income earners up to five thousand dollars that can then be applied towards a college, vocational or technical education. This amount would be a godsend for anyone, especially working or single moms. President Obama has recently gone on record as encouraging mothers to send in applications for the Pell Grant as, more than any other category, he wants to see moms, working mothers and single mothers be able to get a degree and a better career. Pell Grants are available to applicants and students that are, or will be, undergraduates. If you have not previously earned a Bachelor’s degree or any other type of degree, then you are eligible for a Pell Grant of up to five thousand dollars as long as you also meet certain financial and income criteria. The maximum award amount for the Pell grant has differed every year and over the last few years it has been on the rise. Now would be the best time to apply for a Pell Grant. For more information on this grant, please visit www.fafsa.gov.
Apply To Scholarships With More Specific Eligibility Requirements
Scholarships with more eligibility requirements have fewer applicable students. With a more specific set of criteria, fewer students will apply, giving you a better chance at being selected for that specific scholarship. Keep an eye out for scholarships with several requirements that you meet in order to give yourself your best chance of earning a more specialized scholarship.
For example, finding scholarships exclusively open to certain ethnicities or genders will limit the competition and boost your chances of winning.

Create A Calendar Of Deadlines
Create a three- or six-month calendar for the deadlines of all of the scholarships. You want to get your applications in before the deadline, otherwise you wont qualify. When time allows, try to get your application in two to four weeks before the deadline. The reason for this is because some scholarship competitions close early once they reach a certain number of applications. You dont want to miss out on a great scholarship just because you werent one of the first thousand to get your application into the right hands.
The calendar will allow you to focus on a few applications every week. This way you can ensure every word and every thought is clear, concise and correctly portrayed. It will also prevent feelings of being overwhelmed or inundated with all of the scholarship and grant applications. In many cases, the due dates will range throughout the year, giving you plenty of time to apply for as many as you wish.
