On-Campus Air Force ROTC Scholarships

If youre already in college, you can still experience the benefits of joining Air Force ROTC. In addition to detachment-specific scholarship opportunities, freshman and sophomore students may be eligible for the In-College Scholarship Program . The program awards scholarships based on merit during two selection phases .

Enlisted Airmen ASCP & SOAR

Airman Scholarship & Commissioning Program ASCP allows enlisted personnel to separate from active duty and receive a scholarship worth up to $18,000 per academic year while pursuing their undergraduate degree and a commission through Air Force ROTC.

RequirementsAir Force ROTC cadets must complete all of their bachelors degree and commissioning requirements within four years. The time spent in school does not count toward total time in service.

Jrotc For Early Interest

High school students interested in the ROTC are encouraged to explore the junior ROTC for early experience in military training. Through drills, competitions, and a curriculum focused on military sciences, the JROTC aims to instill the mindset and discipline needed to prepare young adults for the relatively rigorous ROTC programs, with a focus on leadership skills development.

For High School Seniors

To apply for the Army ROTC scholarship complete the following:

  • Upload HS transcript and College Board scores
  • Complete all biographic information and write an Applicant Personal Statement and Applicant Essay
  • Conduct an interview with a Professor of Military Science. This step is completed after all other steps. The PMS with whom you conduct your interview does not have to be with a college/university to which you are applying. Your performance in the interview will be factored into whether you earn a scholarship. The PMS with whom you conduct your interview has no influence on earning a scholarship.

    How Do I Apply For An Rotc Scholarship

    You can find out information on ROTC scholarships either through your local military recruiter or the ROTC webpage of the branch of service that interests you. Your best chance of getting a full-ride is to apply early. You can start the process as early as your junior year in high school. It also helps to know that most of the three and four-year scholarships go to students who major in high-demand majors that are sought after by the military. These majors include engineering, computer science, some foreign languages, or nursing.     If you are a high school student interested in being a commissioned officer in the U.S. military, applying for an ROTC scholarship is a great way to serve your country and have your education paid for. ROTC scholarships cover the up to the full cost of tuition, fees, and textbooks for four years. Youll also get a monthly stipend to help pay for personal expenses. If you need help beyond what the scholarship pays, you are still eligible for additional aid from other sources like the federal government. You can also compete for a scholarship if you are currently in college.

    Just remember that if you accept an ROTC scholarship, you are officially bound to serve in the military after graduation. Also, if you dont keep up the minimum standards , you could lose your scholarship and may be required to serve on active duty or repay some of the scholarship funds.

    Where Can I Find An Army Navy Or Air Force Rotc Unit

    You can find ROTC detachments on most major colleges and universities. If you attend a school that does not have an ROTC unit on-campus, your school may have an agreement with a nearby school that does, allowing you to join their ROTC program.

    • What it covers: Full tuition, book allowance, and a monthly stipend
    • Deadline: October, January, and March each year
    • Service Commitment: Eight years split between the active duty and the Individual Ready Reserve

    College Students

    Enlisted Soldiers

    The Army Green to Gold Program provides you with several options if you want to get your degree and earn a commission as an Army officer.

    • Green to Gold Scholarship Option: If you are a qualified enlisted soldier, you may leave active duty to get your degree. The scholarship includes full tuition or room and board, book fees and a monthly stipend.
    • Green to Gold Active Duty Option: If you want to stay on active duty and attend college.
    • Green to Gold Non-Scholarship: If you want to leave active duty to attend college. Youll get a monthly stipend.

    High School Rotc Scholarship

    This scholarship type is awarded to high school seniors who will soon graduate or obtain an equivalent certificate. Competition for these scholarships is keen, as over 6000 students from across the country compete for them. Scholarships pay for full tuition and mandatory fees, for both resident and non-resident students. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly tax-free stipend to defray the cost of living.

    There are two types of high school scholarships: 4-year and 3-year Advanced Designee. 3-year Advanced Designee scholarship winners must satisfactorily participate in Army ROTC their freshmen year in order for their 3-year scholarship to take effect at the beginning of their sophomore year.

    Basic Eligibility Requirements

    • Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component

    Those applicants advancing to further scholarship consideration are scheduled for a medical examination and a personal interview.

    Personal Interview

    This interview in person any travel to and from the interview is at your own expense.

    Medical Examination

    Individuals selected for an interview will be contacted and scheduled for a medical examination by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board . Your medical condition is not a consideration in the selection of winners however, all winners must be medically qualified and enrolled to receive scholarship benefits.     Benefits And Training Obligations

    Generally, Army ROTC scholarships consist of:

    • Two, three, and four-year scholarship options based on the time remaining to complete your degree
    • Full-tuition scholarships
    • The option for room and board in place of tuition, if you should qualify
    • Additional allowances for books and fees

    The scholarships also provide a $420 per month living allowance for each school year. Non-scholarship Cadets in ROTC advanced courses also receive this allowance.

    Rotc Scholarship Application Process

    If you are interested in an ROTC scholarship, you should visit your local military recruitment office or go to the website of the service branch you are interested in. Visit as early as possible, preferably during your junior year of high school, or early in your senior year. Scholarships often go to students majoring in subjects that are highly valued by the military, such as engineering, computer science, specific foreign languages, or nursing.

    Army ROTC applications for high school students can be found online here through the Armys website, while applications for current college students are to be submitted to their colleges Department of Military Science. Air Force and Navy ROTC applications for high school students can be found online through each services website. Students interested in a Marine Corps ROTC scholarship must apply through the Navy ROTC.

    For students currently enrolled in college, the Army and Navy ROTC both offer two- and three-year scholarships. The Air Force offers the In-College Scholarship Program , which awards scholarships based on merit during two selection periods in the fall and spring.

    Flexible Four Year Program With Chances Of Scholarships

    Army Rotc Four Year College Scholarships

    The Army ROTC program is based on a four-year curriculum intended to be integrated with the normal baccalaureate degree program. Flexibility is provided through a number of options and alternatives. These alternatives recognize previous military related experiences and provide accelerated or compressed instruction to allow late entry into the program.

    The four years of on-campus instruction are designated Military Science I, II, III, and IV, corresponding to the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years, respectively. The Basic Course comprises the MS I and MS II years. The Advanced Course comprises the MSIII and MSIV years.

    The program gives students the opportunity to take the Basic Course courses without obligation. The decision to pursue a commission in the U.S. Army and to sign a contract is not made until the beginning of the Advanced Course or upon receiving an Army ROTC scholarship .

    Upon contracting as a Junior, all cadets receive a $350 per month stipend for up to ten months MS III year and $400 per month MS IV year as well as a $900 book allotment each year.

    Guaranteed Reserve Force Duty Scholarship

    The GRFD program is designed for cadets who are interested in obtaining a commission in the U.S. Army Reserves or National Guard with a guarantee for a reserve component assignment. Scholarships cover full tuition and mandatory fees, and range in length up to 3 years. Scholarship awardees also receive a book allowance and a monthly stipend. These Cadets also receive weekend drill and annual training pay as participants in the Simultaneous Membership Program . Cadets receiving a GRFD must commission into a Reserve Component.

    Basic Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Must not reach 31 years of age by 31 December of the year you will graduate from college
    • Have a minimum High school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
    • Satisfactory explain any record of arrest and/or civil conviction
    • Have no moral or personal conviction against bearing arms or supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States
    • Must complete the ROTC Basic Course requirements or Basic Training
    • Must be willing to participate in the SMP program with a Guard or Reserve unit. If you do not belong to a unit, you must obtain a letter of acceptance to the unit, stating that they will accept you as a SMP cadet.
    • Must be medically qualified

    Military Obligation

    If you are selected for a GRFD scholarship, you are required to sign a GRFD contract, guaranteeing service in the National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve upon commissioning.

    Invest In Your Future

    These scholarship opportunities are competitive, and the selection rate is limited. Applications are typically due in early January. There are approximately 2,000 scholarships to award1,000 of these are 4-year scholarships. These pay for 4 years of college, including tuition and fees, a book allowance, and a monthly stipend.

    In addition, half of the scholarships are 3-year advanced designee scholarships, paying for 3 years of college. If you are in this situation, the first year costs are yours and is what the Army refers to as your validation year. To validate your 3AD scholarship, you must achieve a 2.5 cumulative GPA by the end of your first year and pass the Army physical fitness test .

    Regardless of the scholarship, after you receive an award, you must maintain a 2.0 GPA and pass the APFT to keep the scholarship.

    Army ROTC 4-Year Scholarship Application

    Each branch of the military that offers an ROTC scholarship has its own specific ROTC service commitments and requirements:

    • The Army ROTC scholarship requires eight years of active service after graduation – four years of active duty and four years in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
    • The Navy ROTC scholarship requires five years of active duty service after graduation, while the Marine Corps and Navy Nurse Corps scholarship require four years of active duty service.
    • The Air Force ROTC scholarship requires four years of active duty service for those entering non-flight career fields, six years for those entering the air battle management/combat systems officer/navigator career field and 10 years for those entering the pilot career field.
