The Host Family In The Usa
The typical hospitality of the Americans makes the USA a real model country for student exchange programs because the host students are an integral part of the family there and experience typical American everyday life with all its rights and obligations.
This also means attending sporting events with the host parents and siblings, taking short vacations, watching TV with them, helping out around the house, and sometimes having a bad day together. But don’t worry: it is also possible to change host families if the chemistry is not right.

Donate To The Northwest Promise
Recipients of the Northwest Promise meet Northwest’s moderately selective admissions criteria and come from the neediest families . Unlike other need-based programs, the grant, in conjunction with the students federal, state and institutional grants and scholarships, covers 100% of tuition and standard fees and is renewable for three additional years for those meeting the eligibility criteria.
When financial barriers for students are eliminated, students are able to concentrate on academics and achieving their life goals. However, the number of awards given is limited by University funding and donor support.
- More than 5,000 students have qualified to receive the American Dream Grant since its inception in 2004.
- Today, about 500 freshmen meet the need criteria to receive the Northwest Promise.
With this support I was able to continue my higher education at the school I love! Without this scholarship, my family and I wouldnt have been able to afford going to Northwest and I would have had to transfer. It has not only given me the opportunity for an education at Northwest, but also some incredible experiences that wouldnt have been possible otherwise.

Hasanovic American Dream Scholarship
America is home to many immigrants who fuel our nationâs growth and development.
In 2018, more than 63% of foreign-born adults were employed compared to about 60% of native adults, among them brilliant thinkers, inventors, innovators, and incredibly hard-working individuals. Despite this, immigrants are often targeted or stigmatized, creating a divide between those born abroad and those born in the country.
As an immigrant and refugee, I believe that helping those who come to the United States in search of a better life and prosperity is important. These people are the future of our country and are often in positions where they cannot afford to pay for their tuition outright.
To contribute to a better future for immigrant students, the Hasanovic American Dream Scholarship will support immigrant students that have a passion for learning and want to create a better life for themselves, their future families, and contribute positively to our society.
This scholarship is open to all first and second-generation immigrant students in any field of study. To apply, please write about what the American Dream means to you and how you hope to use your college degree to achieve your view of the American Dream.

Im a first generation student attending Northwest. I grew up in Houston and thats where my family lives. Ive been living in Maryville independently to remain focused and to finish college. I work all summer long to make ends meet, as college is expensive and my support system is low. My family still lives in poverty and my only wish is to graduate and make them proud. I know they will be proud because I am beating the odds and doing something that no one in my family has had the opportunity to do. I am very motivated and wish to further my education at Northwest. I look forward to using this scholarship this year in order to be successful. I am truly grateful and appreciative to the donors who help college students like me.
