Va Home Loan Funding Fee Waiver For Disabled Veterans

Disabled Veterans with a VA disability rating of 10% or higher qualify for a waiver of the VA home loan funding fee. Effective January 1, 2020, VA home loan funding fees range from 1.4% to 3.6% of the total loan amount . For example, lets say a first-time veteran home buyer purchases a $300,000 home and makes a down payment of $15,000 . Youll pay a VA funding fee of $4,702.50, or 1.65% of the $285,000 loan amount. Note the funding fee applies only to the VA loan amount, not the purchase price of the home. So, if youre a disabled veteran with a service-connected disability rating of 10% or higher, you are exempt from the VA home loan funding fee! #2: Hope For The Warriors Scholarships

Hope For The Warriors is an organization whose unique scholarship program celebrates and rewards the spouses and caregivers of post-9/11 veterans. Since its inception in 2006, the program has awarded over 140 scholarships totaling more than $412,000 an average of more than $2,900 per scholarship.

Currently, there are five scholarships available through the Hope For The Warriors foundation:

  • The Honorary Scholarship for post-grad and graduate students
  • The New Beginnings scholarship for students pursuing an associates degree
  • The Restoring Family Scholarship, which is only available for Gold Star Spouses
  • The Restoring Hope Scholarship for students pursuing a masters degree in social work

The Wings Over American Foundation scholarship was created to provide financial relief to spouses as well as dependent children of all U.S. Navy personnel that are active duty, retired, honorably discharged, or deceased.

Awardees are selected based on scholastic merit, financial need, and community service involvement. The mission of the scholarship fund is to help spouses and children of military personnel to pursue educational dreams and ambitions.

What Is The Yellow Ribbon Program

The GI Bill pays the total cost of in-state tuition at public universities. If you plan to attend a private or out-of-state school, the program caps payments at $26,042 for the 2021-2022 school year. Schools participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program help make these institutions more affordable for military students by offering additional aid.

Additional Va Disability Compensation For Dependents

Disabled veterans with a current VA disability rating of 30% or higher are eligible for an increase in monthly VA disability compensation to help support your family. Disabled veterans can apply online for free and add/remove dependents at any time on the VA.gov website inside their VA disability claim online application. The application typically takes 30 days or less to add or remove dependents. Sometimes the VA will call or write to verify your dependent status.

Amount: $2,500

The War Veterans Scholarship is awarded by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association . It provides financial relief to active duty uniformed military service members as well as honorably discharged veterans that served in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

The scholarship is open twice a year, and provides merit-based scholarships of $2,500.

How to apply: The primary stipulation is the veteran must be enrolled in an accredited STEM-related degree program at an accredited 4 year college or university.
